The Ancient Guardians recently went to visit the Crystal Caverns, following rumors of
a lost dwarven outpost. The results of the two-part exploration were mixed, although things
ended well.
- Part I: A Gaggle of Orcs. Morty, Gonaeni, and Maegnar joined up with our
old friend Tadwin and began the descent through the orc mines. The Ry'gorr miners weren't
too pleased at our presence, and could not be convinced that we weren't there to steal
their velium. We defended ourselves well on the way down... but in a surprising display of
organization, a party of eight orcs launched a surprise attack as we were crossing a narrow
ledge in the central abyss. The orc party swarmed around Gonaeni and the rogues, bashing Morty off the
ledge in the process and sending him into the depths of the caverns. The remaining three
fought valiantly, but the orcs eventually triumphed and went off to celebrate, leaving the
bleeding and barely-conscious gnome in the depths to find his way out.
- Interlude. The bodies were recovered, resurrections were performed, and Morty finally
found the passage to the surface.
- Part II: Icy Terrors. Gonaeni took her leave, and the remaining party was joined by
Edyenn, Gwanalla, and Korbok. Levitation and Camouflage brought the party safely to the mine's
deep, and the lost dwarven outpost was discovered soon after. Although the dwarves weren't particularly
friendly, they weren't hostile. But dangers lurked nearby - stalag terrors and other horrors inhabit the
icy caves as well. We took it upon ourselves to make the outpost area safer, ridding the caverns of
terrors and spiders. We were well-rewarded, as it was clear that the dwarven guards appreciated the
help.
