SAN DIEGO, CA -- Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) announced on Friday the impending release of the EverQuest Instant Messaging service (EQIM), along a new (Windows) software client to connect to the service.
Using the EQIM client, players can connect to the EverQuest Chat Server without having to log in to the game, making it possible for those outside the game to chat with players who are logged in to the game. Users can log on to EQIM as one of their characters, and chat directly with players on any server, create their own chat rooms, even over Group or Guild channels. Using EQIM from outside the game, players can host and moderate guild meetings in private chat rooms, or look to see if a given character is ingame on any given server.
Use of the EQIM service will be free of charge for current EverQuest subscribers in good standing.
Players must have an active and valid EverQuest subscription with at least one character to use the EQIM service.
The EQIM client is available for download now. For more updates, keep an eye on the EQIM page at the official EverQuest website.
